KRAFT PAPER IS MY FRIEND

The rolls that I carry with me.

The chosen floor plan- three separate yet connect areas for conversation and interaction.
The images above were taken on a recent trip to one of my residential projects. I think it is always interesting to"see" how one works with the design process. I mean, there are so many ways to approach designing a space...and in my many years working in this medium , I find time and time again that what seems perfect on paper does not always feel "right" when you get into the actual space. Even drawn to scale. Even though it may be a tedious task, I usually make full scale templates in a bevy of sizes and begin laying them out in the arrangement I have planned on paper. Then I stand back, take it in and most often walk through the space. I may place my self on the sofa and see what it would be like to travel to the fireplace or to the area that will eventually house the bar. Usually, there is always room for improvement and the room evolves naturally. After working the room alone and just when I have it down...my favorite layout(along with a back up or two) I will invite my client in . I find these templates to be of the utmost help ... as I say, its just one way I like to work. It is not for everyone and that is just fine by me.
Happy Monday.
